Professional currency requirements

General dentists and dental specialists

All dentists applying for or renewing their general registration with the PEI Dental College must demonstrate currency of professional knowledge and skills.

Applicants must have completed one of the following within three (3) years preceding application or renewal:

• Successfully completed the education requirements for general dentists or dental specialists;
• Actively practised general or specialty dentistry in PEI or another jurisdiction recognized by the Council to an extent that is acceptable to the Council; or
• Completed a refresher program approved by the College Council.

Dental assistants

All dental assistants applying for or renewing their general registration with the PEI Dental College must demonstrate currency of professional knowledge and skills.

Applicants must have completed one of the following within three (3) years preceding application or renewal:

• Successfully completed the education requirements for dental assistants;
• Actively practised dental assisting, as a dental assistant authorized by the laws of the jurisdiction where they are practising, without any restrictions, for at least 140 hours; or
• Completed a refresher program approved by the College Council.
